We were just there on Thanksgiving, and really enjoyed the very ample buffet, of not just turkey and all the trimmings, but pork, ham, carved beef. Plus, an extensive salad bar and desserts galore! Delicious!
Pretty disappointed with my last experience here. I've been going to Thunder Bay Grill for years and have always had a pretty good experience up until my last visit (9/23). The place wasn't very busy, and it took our waitress 15 minutes to greet us. That in and of itself isn't a big deal. Our table of 5 ordered a round of drinks and appetizers to start. The appetizers came out after a half hour and we still hadn't gotten drinks by that point. Our waitress apologized and said the bar was backed up, but it still took 45 minutes from when we ordered the drinks to get them; 60 minutes from when we sat down. The bartender or manager did come up and apologize and comp'd the drinks; but it is still completely unacceptable to deal with that sort of a wait for a bar that had no one sitting at it. Food came out an hour after ordering it; and while it tasted good was lukewarm in temperature. Pretty disappointed in the service; which is a shame because the food itself is really good when served fresh. Short of a Sunday morning brunch here or there; I'm not sure I'll be back for a lunch or dinner.
Our server, Cara gets a star and our food gets a star! When we visited last Thursday we asked for a quiet area and were taken to the back room which was perfect. Within 10 minutes 4 other patrons were taken to the table next to ours. The two other tables were empty and further away. We could not hear one another and when we were alone we asked our server why the 4 patrons could not have been placed away from us at the other empty tables. The manager heard the question and came over to tell us that this place is noisy because of the slick walls which she demonstrated by running her hand over the wall next to our table. She said we were lucky we didn't have a drunk next to us and the other room was much noisier. She said she wanted her girls to be equal so she asked us if it wasn't right that she gave that table to the other girl? She adjusted the blinds and said she would be in Florida in a couple weeks. At no time did she mention our discomfort or dissatisfaction with our experience. Were we satisfied with her treatment of the problem? We'll vote with our feet and not return. There are many choices available.
Surprisingly good value. Got a gift certificate for wife's birthday and wouldn't have visited otherwise. I've driven past this restaurant for years but never had any interest. I was definitely missing out. Unique blend of flavorful food. I'm not sure that everything is necessarily made fresh, but everything we've had has been delicious. I'm not an Applebees or a chain restaraunt type of person, but I'm a fan of Thunder Bay. Gift card has been used up, but we'll be back. Interior is cozy and clean.
Great experience! I had called a few days ahead to make a reservation for a party of 17. It was an 89th birthday celebration. We are given a private room (no charge) which was appropriately staffed by 2 people. The service was great. We spent 2 1/2 hours and were never rushed by our wait staff. The salad bar is huge with lots of options. The other items we ordered from the menu were served hot and were very good. We brought our own cake and were not charged a cutting fee which was a pleasant surprise. Most places do charge. I will visit them again.
